Week 9 - Term 3 - 2022

Kaua e mate wheke mate ururoa

Don't die like a octopus, die like a hammerhead shark

Octopus are renown for their lack of resistance when being captured, however a hammerhead shark will fight bitterly to the end, to the point that when you fillet it fresh, its meat quivers. Commonly used to encourage someone not to give up, no matter how hard the struggle is.

Information for Staff

1. To end Te wiki o Te Reo Māori I have gone with the whakatauaki " Kaua e mate wheke mate ururoa". As the marking sets in, just remember we are nearly there. I have worked out that I have only 11 lessons left with my seniors!

2. Being Resilient - Characteristics of Resilient Schools - Derek Wenmoth has just released his new paper which  "provides guidance for school leaders as they seek to work with their staff and communities to design the systems, structures and processes required to ensure they are able to continue providing high quality learning experiences for their students in the wake of any disruption they experience, be that short or long-term, impacting all or some of their staff and/or students.

The paper addresses three key areas; culture, practice and structure, which are further broken down into nine sections that are intended to provide a provocation for further inquiry and action as you work towards becoming a more resilient organisation."

3. Lunch Break PD - short sessions to help you upskill
This session will take you through a range of Google Suite Add-ons in Google Docs, Google Slides, and Google Forms that support learners of all ages. You will: - Learn about a range of different add-ons from within Google Docs, Slides and Forms - Create by taking time to play with some add-ons that may enhance learning for your ākonga - Then take action as you challenge yourself by choosing an add-on you could use with your learners - And give it a go! Information for Staff

1. Get ready for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori - you could start with

a. Test your mātauranga
Take this quiz by Te Papa and see where your te reo knowledge is at!

b. Download the Kūpu app
The picture-taking app Kūpu uses Google’s machine learning software to show people the Māori words for the objects around them – and it’s free via the Apple and Android app stores. If you have a phone that allows it, we recommend you check this out!

c. Some further ideas can be found at https://www.reomaori.co.nz/ideas

2. ImpactED are excited to be able to offer a free hui, which is also eligible for the PPTA travel and expenses grant

If you feel like some free gin, and a winter escape in the holidays then feel free to join us in Methven or Timaru for our free #makeanimpact hui. https://www.impacted.co.nz/makeanimpact-hui-2022/

The PPTA has a grant available to help eligible kaiako cover costs (travel, accommodation, meals, and childcare) when attending Subject Association run events. The DSTA is a registered Subject Association, meaning the impactED hui is eligible for this funding; however, you will need to apply to the PPTA directly for reimbursement – please follow this link to find out more and to apply for preapproval.

3. The text for all push notifications has been updated and Classroom action options, such as “Join class” or “View comment" have been enhanced. With this update, Classroom push notifications are much clearer and more actionable. |

E rua tau ruru, e rua tau wehe, e rua tau mutu, e rua tau kai.
