Information for Staff:
1. Welcome back to Term 2! Firstly, thank you for the Parent-Teacher interviews for our junior students at the end of Term 1. There was some great feedback regarding ākonga progress as well as Term 1 overall experiences for our year 9 whānau.
Also a welcome to our new staff. Tamara Toaolamai, who is joining the Languages faculty, teaching Te reo, and Alice-Louise Barker who is joining our counselling team over in Te Whare Hauora. Monique Peterson will be starting as the new Executive Assistant and Nadia Schikker will be working over in the PE department as the Sports Co-ordinator.
2. One of the key themes that has come out of the survey data as part of the Manaaki ki te Tangata PLD was around the theme of 'Differentiation'. This has also been highlighted as part of the ESOL testing that has been completed for our second language learners. We know our students in the class, so think about what might be the best tool/resource to help them with where they are at in their learning.
There are a range of open access AI tools available to teacher, that help to leverage for differentiation purposes. You may want to explore some of the following:
Differentiation Focus | Free App | Description |
Personalised Learning Paths
| Khan Academy | Offers practice exercises and learning materials that adapt to a student’s performance |
Automated Assessments and Feedback | Socrative | Allows for real-time assessments with immediate feedback, helping identify student learning needs.
Also - remember you can use the socrative (socratic dialogue) method using Chat-GPT (or other AI) to help with practice examination questions - giving immediate feedback to students.
E.g.” Acting as an expert on the process of Socratic dialogue, please assess my knowledge and understanding of tropisms and the role of auxin. Ask me one question at a time to measure my understanding of the roles of gravity, light, and auxin in the growth of a shoot from germination into a mature plant. I need to describe the response of the shoot within its environment as it germinates AND as it continues to grow I must be able to describe the role of auxin in shoot growth Make links to the effects of gravity and light with the action of auxin through the different stages of shoot growth to maturity and be able to discuss any adaptive advantages the shoot gains from these responses, as it develops, in relation to its ecological niche. Once you are confident that you know my level of understanding, please stop the conversation and give me some productive feedback on my responses. I am in year 13. Do you understand?” |
Adaptive Content Delivery | CK-12 | Provides adaptive learning for K-12 students with content that adjusts to individual student performance |

Curriculum Customisation | Diffit | Allows teachers to create customised, differentiated resources for any discipline and year level, by topic |
Audio to Text Conversion | Descript | Transcribes text for any video/audio so that students can read it later |
Image Generation | Craiyon | To enable students to produce their own visual stimuli and content.
Prompt: “Create a cover illustration showcasing a variety of interspecific interactions, such as mutualism, parasitism and predation. The image is colourful and engaging.”
Interesting array of pictures…..
