1. Free Pd on 29 June - There are limited spaces available around topics such as:
Minecraft Education, Global connections through Mystery Skype, Inclusive education and OneNote, and enhancing thinking skills using Micro:Bit. These are held at the Cyclone office go to https://www.eventbrite.co.nz/o/cyclone-free-events-15025172089 for more information.

2. Te reo Maori in classrooms - Current policy, future practice. Georgina Stewart (2014).

The PCT group had a meeting yesterday, where as a group we discuss different educational readings linked to individual inquiries. One of the readings discussed was around Te re Maori in NZ classrooms. It has a primary focus, but it has good background information around the 'why' we should all increase the use of Te reo. If your inquiry is around Te reo use, then the article is worth a read.

1. A useful blogpost from CoreEd, regarding Creative Commons and detailing 3 sites which teachers can access that has free images available for use.

2.  CORE Education have developed a  customised mentoring programme, uChoose. The idea behind the programme is that it is about enabling you to take control of your professional learning journey, extend your skills, thinking and learning network and achieve life-changing results. The programme outline is:
  • Lead change and building leadership practices
  • Develop strategies and solutions for specific situations and challenges
  • Explore areas of specialisation (such as e-learning, modern learning practices, cultural responsiveness, and much more)
  • Develop your own mentoring or facilitation skills
  • Meet your appraisal goals
  • Collect, select and reflect on a body of evidence for appraisal
  • Design, plan, implement and evaluate your own inquiry

3. Something for Google Users - Chrome Extension Draftback.
This extension, enables users to view their writing process in a video format. When a document is share with a teacher as and editor, one of the great features of this extension is that it enables the teacher to view a student's writing process. Having this view of the writing, makes it easy to see when large chunks of  text have been added to a document.

Information for Staff

1. The regional Manu Kōrero Māori speech competitions will be held at Riccarton High School on Friday, June 22. The event starts with a pōwhiri at 8.00 a.m and continues into the evening.
Representing our school are the following girls;
Amiria Tikao in the junior Māori section. Her topic is ‘ Māku anō tōku ao e waihanga - If I could create my own world’
Kate Gutry in the junior English section with the topic “The best project I could ever work on is me’
Olivia McIntyre in the senior English section. “The purpose of education is to create possibilities ...”
The school kapa haka group will also travel to the competitions to perform in support of each of our speakers.

Times for each performance have yet to be confirmed.

2. Pop up Lab/free workshop 

Where and When: Hornby High School, 21 June 2018 from 4pm to 6pm

The team will be demonstrating new, interesting and innovative approaches to pedagogy, talking about their new Masters programme and postgrad programme to run in Christchurch and North Canterbury from the week of July 23, 2018.
PLEASE NOTE $2,000 Next Foundation Scholarships are available for the LAST TIME for this intake commencing in July. This makes the programme cost $750.
The programme will be run at Hornby High School on Thursday evenings from 4.0pm to 8.00pm and at Rangiora High School on Wednesday evenings from 4.30pm to 8.30pm. The programme brochure is available here. The programme is 32 weeks with 16 weeks face to face and 16 weeks online.
