1. You may have seen the latest information from the Teaching Council around their new registration and certification policy. The bullet points below may be of interest.

What’s new?
 • Te reo me ngā tikanga Māori – a specific declaration indicating your commitment to developing your skills and knowledge throughout your teaching career. Professional leaders endorsing your application also need to state that this has been upheld.
 • Satisfactory recent teaching experience – is now two years of uninterrupted teaching in the last five years. 
• A new certificate has been developed for teachers who have not been teaching for the last five years but are wanting to return to teaching and are likely to meet the Standards. 
• New names for registration, practising certificates and authorities

Webinar: Strengthening Local Curriculum
Wednesday, November 27: 4 pm – 5 pm
This webinar will guide schools and kura on topics such as:
  • how to use the national curriculum to design schools/kura local curriculum
  • designing and developing effective local curriculum
  • how to develop and strengthen relationships – including with mana whenua - to co-design local curriculum
  • lessons learned from the Local Curriculum workshops in the first half of 2019. 
A guest speaker will also share how their school is designing local curriculum that meets the needs and aspirations of learners and whānau.
Registrations close Tuesday, November 26.This webinar will be hosted by CORE Education on behalf of the Ministry of Education.

2.Moderation workshops for 2020 - NZQA will continue with the model they have trialed successfully re Moderation workshops that are on demand. This we hosted a workshop for Te reo Maori teachers around Christchurch and found it successful. If you feel that this is something you would like to consider for your learning area, please let me know. More information can be found HERE

3. The Mindlab have sent through information for their course starting in January 2020. Mindlab have introduced a new block-based schedule to their Postgraduate Certificate in Digital and Collaborative Learning to make the programme more accessible.The next intake of their innovative 32-week programme kicks off on January 13th 2020.

1. With regards to growing leaders, the next CADAP meeting is on Thursday 21st Nov in the afternoon. As a school we will be able to take 2 other staff (with L-J) if interested to hear the 
guest speaker Eruera Tarena: Executive Director, Tokona te Raki: Māori Futures Collective  (Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Porou and Te Whānau-ā-Apanui.)

Eruera is the Executive Director for Tokona te Raki: Māori Futures Collective, a Ngāi Tahu-led approach to tackle inequality at its roots.  Where the vision is to create equity in education, employment and income for all Ngāi Tahu and Māori in the Ngāi Tahu Takiwā by 2040.  Our legacy – a world where all Māori are inspired by their futures, confident in their culture, prosperous in their careers and succeeding as Māori.
