Information for Staff

1. Heads up regarding the MOE/PPTA TOD on Thursday 13 March. The MOE have released further information regarding a possible agenda for the day (yet specific access to the modules are still not available). As it is a series of online videos and resources again, we have been in discussion with CBHS re a few changes to how we would like the day to be set up. This is in line with alternatives from the MOE around schools being able to access our own relevant speakers if we were able. So rather than watching a series of videos on mana ōrite mō te mātauranga Māori and discussing what it means in our context, we have secured Dr Hana O'Regan to come in and speak for the first hour of the morning and use her provocations as a basis for discussion and planning. We will be joined at CGHS by the CBHS staff and the presentation will be held in the PAC.

There will be time to work through some of the modules after morning tea and departments will have time in the afternoon to meet and either further work through the relevant modules or use the time to work on other subject specific needs. Your HOD will give you more information after L&T have met on Tuesday.

2. Here is a link to a free, self-paced course about digital storytelling and how to integrate video as an effective instructional tool.

3.Teacher and Student Capabilities Matrix - for planning and consideration

A full rubric for developing teaching, learning, and the classroom.
Something to consider as new units are developed moving forward. If you choose one row of the rubric at a time and plan what activities you might do with your team to agree on which of the 4 stages you have reached and what would shift the department to the next level of a particular row/issue.

Information for Staff

1. Further to the documents that was shared this morning around restreaming, you will see that the report includes a petition, resources and workshop guides. There will also be a  music video will be available next week.

Links to all of their material can be found at http://www.maorifutures.co.nz/

With the upcoming parent/teacher interviews  you may want to go back and have a look at the document/ information that was shared with parents in regards to the removal of streaming at Year 9 at CGHS - in case questions are asked.

2. NZQA have asked to remind teachers to respond to the survey around the Level 1 NCEA subject content for New Zealand Curriculum subjects.

In response to initial feedback about the survey, some improvements have been made. They have adjusted the options in the online surveys and improved access to the subject content. They have also developed a video (with sub-titles in English and Te Reo Māorito explain how they are presenting the new subject content for each NZC Level 1 subject on the NCEA Education website.

They recommend that you review the subject content for the subjects you are interested in on the NCEA Education website before answering the online surveys. Please be aware that in reviewing one subject, do read all parts of the content - for example, Learning Matrix, Assessment Matrix and the accompanying teaching and learning guidance we have provided.

Once you have gained an understanding of the subject content on the NCEA Education website, you are now ready to answer our online survey questions.

Feedback can be provided through online surveys until 19 April 2020:

Survey in English

Survey in te reo Māori

You can save your responses at any time and return to the survey later. Once you have finished and are ready to submit your responses, click on ‘Finish’. If you accidentally closed the survey before clicking ‘Finish’, your survey response will not be submitted nor recorded and you will need to start again.

If you have any questions, please email ncea.review@education.govt.nz.

3. If you would like to explore another online resource have a look at Liveworksheets -

Liveworksheets allows you to transform your traditional printable worksheets (doc, pdf, jpg...) into interactive online exercises with self-correction - "interactive worksheets".

Students can do the worksheets online and send their answers to the teacher. This is good for the students (it's motivating), for the teacher (it saves time) and for the environment (it saves paper).

Interactive worksheets take full advantage of the new technologies applied to education: they may include sounds, videos, drag and drop exercises, join with arrows, multiple choice... and even speaking exercises, that the students must do using the microphone.

How can I use it?
You can use 'liveworksheets' to make your own interactive worksheets or you can use the ones shared by other teachers. There is a collection of thousands of interactive worksheets that cover lots of subjects.
