Information for Staff:

1. A huge mihi to all of the coaches and managers who took teams away on summer tournament week, or helped out with Wednesday sports this term. We appreciated the many hours that go into the organising of our students so that they have these opportunities.

2. Literacy in Action - Thought it a timely reminder around the resource that was created last year by the staff when departments shared what they were doing in the literacy space. If you are thinking back to resource creation, you may want to go back and revisit this mahi - you can find the link HERE.

3. And a great quote to think about and a link to a blog on 'the basic needs for successful learning':

Information for Staff:

1. We will have a number of staff out in week 10 completing Manaaki ki te Tangata PLD, part of the Rongohia te hau PLD that we started with Hine Waitere last year. This helps align with our strategic plan around culturally responsive relational pedagogy. We have a good cross section of staff across learning areas involved in this. We will look to see if we can roll this time with the team

2. Grow Waitaha are putting on a couple of webinars around AI - called "Artificial Intelligence In Education: Don't Ignore It, Harness It!

Whether you're a tech savvy AI educator or just starting to explore the possibilities of AI, this GROW Waitaha webinar series is your chance to discuss and learn how to leverage technology in a way that puts people first by;

* Minimising teacher workloads

* Designing inclusive, equitable learning

* Helping students reflect on AI and guide them to effective pedagogical use

If you are interested in this kaupapa - you can sign up to the webinar HERE

Also, following on with regards to AI updates, Michelle PIM had a go using co-pilot using the following prompt:

The response was a good starting point for more development via the links provided in the Learn more tabs

Information for Staff:

1. Remember to sign up for your PLD late start group if you have not done so already: https://forms.gle/E4v7p4PJh9jri5qD8

2. Microsoft Co-pilot: I had the chance to attend a webinar on the use of Co-pilot, another of the AI tools that we are able to access. As we are a Microsoft school, we have access to this platform for free and it links in with the paid version of ChatGTP4. The great thing about this particular AI platform is that the data is up-to-date and it also cites where the data/information comes from. That does not mean it will not 'hallucinate' with some of the content it produces, but it means that what you do get back, can be fact checked against websites.

The other key difference, is that there is commercial data protection. That means that anything you feed into the prompt is private and does not go out to feed the large language models in other AI platforms. It is also able to be used by students aged 13+ as it uses Microsofts responsible AI principles. As is it unique and data is protected, AI will pick up different responses every time you use it.

It can even create images based on a prompt - for example, here is my first attempt:

Create a pop vinyl character of a person called Sonja Bailey. She wears glasses, has shoulder length brown hair. She is to wear a T-shirt that is navy blue, with CGHS in red writing across the front. The box must have written on it 'Favourite teacher'

If you would like to try it as a tutor - you can input any website that you would like students to read and get it to generate questions for students to answer. This is a great way to allow for differentiation and for students to be able to access sites that have variable reading ages.

Here is an example:

My prompt: Can you summarise the following website https://www.nature.com/scitable/knowledge/library/overview-of-hominin-evolution-89010983/#:~:text=Our%20immediate%20evolutionary%20family%20is,and%20bonobos%20(Figure%201). Then create 5 multichoice questions based on the information. Give each question to me one at a time for me to answer. Once I have the answer correct, give me the next questions. Give feedback to me if my answer is wrong.

Information for Staff:

1. This year we are bringing back the late start PLD slots to make time in the school year to allow for smaller groups of staff to get together to work on a number of our different school priorities.

Please click on the google form to indicate what group that you will be joining. If there is an alternative that is not covered, please discuss with BLS and we can look to accommodate a separate group focus.

Please use the following link to sign up: https://forms.gle/E4v7p4PJh9jri5qD8

The Professional Learning Groups will be:
a. Literacy in the junior school
b. Numeracy across the junior school
c. Culturally Responsive Practice - developing a strategic overview and action plan for CGHS.
d. Teacher Profile - this is a chance for a small group of staff to look at how the teacher profile could be used better within our kura. For example in the developing a new classroom observation feedback/feedforward form with the CGHS teacher profile at its centre.
e. Restorative - this would be great for new staff and those who would like a refresher on restorative conversations and relational behaviour management.
f. House Spirit/Culture - a number of staff have identified that this could be an action point for CGHS. The focus will be on 'How to lift Spirit across the school'.
g. Other - see BLS to confirm the focus and who will be part of the group.

2. If you would like to read a summary of the 'actions' put forward at our staff meeting on Tuesday you can find the document HERE. If you would like to add in any extra comments for an area that your group did not have a chance to discuss, or reinforce something that you may want to see as a priority, please comment on the side.

One of our key aims over the last few years, under Strategic Goal 2, as been around student agency, engagement and student-centered learning. Something you may want to explore is the following playbook 'Agency by Design'. It has a lot of information but there may be relevant chapters with great reflective questions.
