1.

Achieved Course Endorsement available from 2021 onwards

This change is an outcome of the NCEA review.
All school courses that meet existing eligibility criteria will be able to be endorsed at the Achieved level from the start of 2021 onwards. This is in addition to the Merit and Excellence course endorsement awards already recognised by the Ministry of Education.

The purpose of the change is to acknowledge that students who attain 14 or more credits at an Achieved grade or higher, have demonstrated a sound level of skill and understanding in the subject matter of that course. The award will read, for example: English endorsed with Achieved at Level 1.

The existing eligibility criteria for Course Endorsement can be found here.

See NCEA Mythbuster 10 for more information about courses and programmes.

2. Mote - is a Chrome Extension that is integrated into Google Docs, Slides and Sheets, for easy recording and feedback to students.

Students are also able to use mote to connect with their teachers, by adding voice comments or questions into their shared documents.

3. An article that is well worth a read - How Empowering Girls to Confront Conflict and Buck Perfection Helps Their Wellbeing.

4. The Education Hub has a number of free webinars coming up on topics such as 'Unleashing the Science of Learning in your classroom', and 'What is learning by scientific design'.

Information for Staff
1. Welcome back for 2021. Hope you have all had a fantastic break. There have been a few changes onsite at CGHS over the break, most notably the gym and it is looking amazing.
On Monday, we will start with a welcome in the staff room at 9am, with meeting scheduled throughout the day. As our Teacher Only Day is on Friday, the welcome back lunch will be on Friday - so just a heads up.
Agenda:

  • Welcome back
  • New Staff Introductions
  • Goals, Directions and Updates - ONC
  • Start of Year Survey
  • Powhiri and Waiata
A big change you will see, is the updated Kamar platform - I suggest you all watch the tips and tricks video before you login as there is definitely new learning for everyone.

You may also be interested in the following presentation, which is about tidying up your GSuite.

NCEA survey link: https://nzqa.au1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6F44sbboayeiyAB
The surveys close on 27 February 2021.
3. Resubmissions: With the NCEA review, there will be an updated Assessment Rule on 1 Feb 2021. From this point forward, schools will only be able to offer a resubmission opportunity to students only when a minor error prevents them from reaching an 'Achieved' grade.
The only change in grade boundary available for resubmissions is from 'Not Achieved' to 'Achieved'. On this basis, the highest grade that can be awarded as a result of a resubmission of an internal assessment is limited to 'Achieved'.
We are to continue to offer only one resubmission for each assessment event against an Assessment Standard.

Mā te huruhuru ka rere te manu

Adorn the bird with feathers so it may soar.

Whether you are young or old, there’s always room to grow. Learning a new skill, solving problems, and helping others are just some of the many “feathers” you can wear in order to soar high. The more strengths you have, the higher you’ll fly! Give your tamariki those feathers (experiences) so they may soar.

A number of questions have been asked - you may be interested in the first summary that has been downloaded from the survey tool 'Ask your team'. Students were asked to either disagree or agree with the statements. The percentages refer to the number who do agree. See the first section of the data HERE.
