Information for Staff

1. The final Secondary Community of Practice Hui for 2017 will be held at Rangiora High School’s new building on Thursday November 9th 1.30-4.30. This Hui is the third in the series from Grow Waitaha - with a number of you having already visited Rolleston and Haeata. If you are interested in attending this session, please let BLS know.

2. Here is a link to view a recent seminar that was held in Wellington on ‘Walking the tightrope: Balancing prevention and protection - promoting resiliency to achieve a safe environment online’. It was hosted by Sean Lyons who, Netsafe states, "comes from a background in the IT industry and the education sector having spent part of his career as a classroom teacher and school leader. He is incredibly knowledgeable about online challenges and is responsible for Netsafe’s programme to combat child sexual exploitation material". We have permission to share this seminar within our school.

3. Tip for marking online work quickly: I (Liz) am not the fastest, nor the most efficient typist and so marking or commenting on classes of student online work can be quite time-consuming. I have recently discovered Talk and Comment - Voice notes anywhere and I am really enjoying using the tool. It has sped up my marking time considerably and I like that the voice recorded notes can be integrated with Google docs, email and more making it very versatile. It is an extension available through the Chrome web store - simply type into the Search bar 'Talk and comment' as in the image above. If you click on the title of this post, you can see more about it.

4. Staff Wellbeing: Why teachers should make sleep a priority - something to think about as we approach the final week for the end of term 3.
