Tues 26: Student Support

Information for Staff:

1. Heads up - In term 4 the school will be looking at migrating to Windows 10. There will be a drop in training session on Monday 16 October from 9am-3pm. If you could pencil this into your diaries.

2. Supporting students with BYOD includes encouraging typing as an important skill. There are a number of typing games available online and here follows a selection that appeared in the latest edition of Interface, a NZ magazine that supports the use of ICT in learning.
Nitro Type - this is a typing competition that has real-time car racing against others around the world as its basis. The faster one types, the faster the car moves.
Typing Exercise - is touted as a great way to start typing as it is quick. It can be customised for the user too.
Keybr - teaches touch typing by generating random words which are to be typed as shown. It then automatically tailors typing lessons to skill level.

3. Maori Language Week - as we come to the end of the week - a reminder that with the new Practicing Teacher Criteria, using Te reo in our classrooms becomes even more important. PTC 1 refers to Te Tiriti o Waitangi partnership, and teachers are requried to practise and develop the use of te reo and tikanga Maori. Think about how you can comfortably meet this standard by starting with small steps.

A couple of resources that I came across that could be of interest were:
a. Te Ahu o Te Reo – The Health of the Māori Language - a blog post on Te reo in education
b. From Stuff - As we look to creating a school Waiata - stuff created a post on their 5 top Waiata - Click HERE to see what they are.
