CGHS School App
We are currently looking at revamping our CGHS School App. It is a great way of quickly communicating with students and parents.
Staff who are in charge of sports teams, year levels, music groups etc can be added to send out alert reminders. If you think this is something that you would find useful, please let Sonja (BLS) know and a username and password can be created.
Teacher Absences for PD
If you want to check that your relief has been sorted for when you are away for PD, camps, courses etc for the upcoming week, these are now on the front calendar screen on KAMAR for you to check.

A
selection of tools for creating Quiz Games for class - A Comparison Chart
Quiz games can be used for creating fun formative assessment
activities, some can be created by teachers or students, or used for exit
tickets.
Kahoot is a well-known quiz game here at CGHS, we had a PLD
session last year on creating Kahoots, and they are popular with students. It
is probably the best known quiz game tool, although other popular ones include
Socrative and Quizlet. These are not the only ones available to use – there are
other good ones too.
They all have a common purpose – to make reviewing work fun – and
have some common features. In the chart below you can see the different features of 6 popular quiz
games.
The features that are common
to all six quiz game tools are:
1. Teachers can collaborate on quiz creation by being able to
access published quizzes and then modify them for their own classroom use.
2. All let teachers get results in a spreadsheet format.
3. Teachers can set the quizzes to give students immediate
feedback on their answers.
P.S. Kahoot has a new type of game available now called Jumble.
This gets players to place answers in the correct order, rather than just
choose the one right answer, and promotes higher order thinking.
Students can contribute to game creation

Professional Development:
1. ULearn17: Registrations are now open for the annual ULearn conference. This year it will be held in Hamilton from 11 - 13 October.
2. Middle Leadership: Leading Others.
2. Middle Leadership: Leading Others.
This four-day workshop series is
aimed at primary and secondary teachers whose role has them having
responsibility for ‘leading others’. First day is Wednesday 15 March, please see BLS if interested.
These four interconnected workshops
(spread over the school year) set out to build ourselves as a community of practice. The focus of this
learning opportunity is on “making a difference to the classroom next door”
– your critical role in leading learning, influencing learning and teaching,
creating and leading a professional learning team, and growing others in their
leadership.
